Egg-cellent Fillable Easter Eggs

Out with the old cheap plastic Easter eggs and in with a soft crochet egg! This pattern works up in about 15-20 minutes and it is a great yarn buster.  You can even personalize it with some beautiful surface crochet.  For size reference, it fits a Fun Size Milky Way (no surprise that's my favorite candy bar!) SUPPLIES

Worsted Weight Yarn, any

color (stiffer texture is ideal),

the example uses Red Heart

Super Saver Monet & White

• 3mm Crochet Hook

• Yarn Needle

• Stitch Marker

• Scissors



ABBREVIATIONS

SC - Single Crochet

INC - Increase

INV DEC - Invisible Decrease

CH - Chain Stitch

ST - Stitch

SL ST - Slip Stitch

RND - Round

FLO - Front Loop Only

BLO - Back Loop Only



BODY OF EGG - Using Solid or Variegated Yarn

RND 1: In a magic ring make 6SC (6)

RND 2: (2SC, 1INC)X2 (8)

RND 3: (1SC, 1INC)x4 (12)

RND 4: (2SC, 1INC)x4 (16)

RND 5: (3SC, 1INC)x4 (20)

RND 6: (4SC, 1INC)x4 (24)

RND 7: (5SC, 1INC)x4 (28)

RND 8-9: 28SC (28)

RND 10: 20SC, 8 CH (keep your CH STs LOOSE or the egg will    

be misshapen, check them by comparing the length of CHs against the remaining unused ST in this RND, they should be the same length without being stretched), SL ST into the first SC of this RND (28)

RND 11: Starting in the same ST you just SL ST into, 20SC,

8SC into BLO of RND10’s CH (28)

RND 12: 28SC (28)

RND 13: (2SC, 1INV DEC)x7 (21)

RND 14: (5SC, 1INV DEC)x3 (18)

RND 15: (1SC, 1 INV DEC)x6 (12)

RND 16: (1SC, 1 INV DEC)x6 (9)


Pull through and sew hole shut through the FLO of RND 16.


FINISHING THE OPENING - Using Same Yarn as Above

Leave a tail and join with a SL ST in the leftover FLO of RND 10’s CH.


Starting in the same loop you just joined 8SC, pull through. 

Make a knot in the corner of the opening using the working end of the yarn. Do the same on the other side with the tail.


Weave in all ends on the inside of the egg. Shape with hands. 

Fill with candy and enjoy!

You would either find me screaming down a potato sack slide or spending time perusing the Home Arts Competition (and not just because they were in air conditioning!).  I was captivated by the ornate and creative contributions by entrants.  I never would have thought I would be one of those competitors, but here I am!
